FUTURE PLANS

I have been very quickly been given the task to decide my future.

Being in year 11 in high school means that you as the perfect student should have already decided your future plans, goals, occupation, etc. The education department doesn't care about your plans for a private life (which ironically I have already attempted to map out), but instead the mark rating you are going to get when you finish you HSC (the Australian version of the American  SATs).

My first question is: Why is it a rating? Why are we all in competition with our peers?
At the start of the year when our year was all getting introductions, the faculties spoke about the fact that when you are in year 11 and half of year 12 you are to help each other out, have little study sessions and participate in group work. But the second that second half of year 12 comes around, it is every man for himself. It's like a massive The Hunger Games and the only one who will succeed is the one that survives.

Another problem I have is that we are 16 and are bring told that we have to make one of the biggest or maybe the biggest decision of our lives, and at the age of 16, that decision has to be right. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I have no clue about my future occupation or the way I'll go about getting it when I eventually decide what I want to be. There are so many paths you can take: University, TAFE, business college, gap year, american college, overseas study, repeat year 12, do your HSC over 2 years, and theres more. How are 16 year olds, who for many haven't even reached a quarter of their lifespan meant to choose that path? It's crazy!

Anyway, that is my rant of the week, come on back next week for my rant on friend problems. Just kidding, I'm not trying to sound like a really annoying person that doesn't do anything but complain, but this is often the easiest way to vent out all my problems.
