This is where the first of the bad Karma began! We hiked all the way to the bottom of the waterfall. Which is gorgeous! There is water to swim in. But don't jump off the waterfall! the water on only knee deep and full of giant rocks!
While walking out of my first swim, I was bitten on the foot by an eel!! It felt so weird! I looked down and there was this fat black thing attached to my foot just grabbing on for the ride I guess. So I tried to shake it off running and screaming, with my foot bleeding to the shore where we managed to get my heel bandaged up. Not 10 minutes later one of the boys I was with also got bitten by an eel. So we all came in for lunch and took some photos and chatted whilst playing cards.
When we went in the water a second time, we ended up racing out because there was a green tree snake just swimming about 30 cm from us. Despite what you are told in every grade of school - that you should stay still when you see a snake, fear over comes you and you bolt as fast as you can. Which is probably the worst thing you can do.
We headed home after a few hours and hung around the pool until we got ready for the big night ahead!
Killen falls is definitely a must if you're in the area, but you don't necessarily have to go swimming. Just a bit of a disclaimer, there aren't always going to be eels and snakes and I don't want my experience with these animals to put anyone off visiting this gorgeous waterfall. Just make sure you leave fairly early because there is very limited parking!
